Sometimes IT needs to make changes to settings on your machine. We do this via "policy updates." When you're working at your office computer, we're able to make these updates without intervention. However, if you're working remotely, we sometimes need you to force the computer to ask our servers for a policy update.

This only applies to company issued computers. You do not need to run this on your personal computers.

Force a Policy Update

  1. First, connect to the VPN. If you're not already connected, double click on the "VPN" icon on your desktop.
If you don't see that icon, you can connect by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Select the "Outra VPN" option and click "Connect."
  2. Confirm that you're connected by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Confirm that the "Outra VPN" option says "Connected."
  3. Once connected to the VPN, open the Start Menu and start typing cmd to open a Command Prompt
  4. Once the Command Prompt window has opened, carefully type the following and hit the enter key:

    gpupdate /force

(Make sure to include the space after gpupdate)
    It looks like this:

    Type the Enter key
  5. It will then run the policy update process which may take a few minutes to complete. While running, it will look like this:
  6. Once it has completed, close the window by typing exit and enter or clicking the X in the upper right.

If you have any issues with any of these steps, email helpdesk@outra.co.uk and make sure to say what step you got stuck on. If you get an error message, make sure to tell us what it says.
